06 August, 00:00

GONG! End of the tournament! Many many thanks to all the participants for another successful tournament! The results will not be immediately online, but in half an hour to an hour time... patience :)

05 August, 23:02

Miodrag finds another amazing entry, an A1/45/46/21!

05 August, 21:01

Arno finds a brilliant idea, giving a B2/14/18/6 and a B2/15/19/7!

04 August, 22:25

Ivan & Ján improve with a beautiful A1/41/41/15! One day left!

29 July, 23:03

An important question that was raised by a participant is, about the ser-hs= and #, does the last move count for both the points and the number of moves? My initial thought was that it counts for the points, but not for the moves. But then the number of points could indeed be higher than the number of moves, which seems illogical (for categories A and B at least, for C it is normal of course). Thus the last move does count for the number of moves for those stipulations.

29 July, 22:57

Ivan & Ján find a very nice C1/26/20/12/8! Arno find two elegant entries in the A2 category, an A2/22/22/6 and an A2/22/23/7!

22 July, 12:44

Ivan & Ján find the C2/14/7/7/3!

22 July, 11:09

20 July, 23:47

Arno is in great shape, and also takes the lead in category C1, with another elegant entry, a C1/29/32/7/17!

18 July, 21:42

Hum... words fail to find adequate words... Arno finds a stunning B1/49/62/26!!! And thus also an A1/49/61/26! Those tournaments always have great surprises in store, from the very first one. And this is certainly one of those moments... It would have seemed practically impossible at the start, but now we are almost at 50; and who knows, maybe a 60 or more will be reached before the end!?

15 July, 22:10

Arno finds an  unbelievable A1/38/42/30 (C+!)!!! Truly remarkable, never saw anything quite like that yet...

13 July, 09:01

07 July, 22:19

Given the special nature of this tournament, the deadline is extended, one time only, by two weeks. Thus it ends on the 5th of August instead.

07 July, 22:17

Miodrag finds a most beautiful B1/22/27/12! Very original and interesting idea...

07 July, 07:50

A great surprise, Cornel improves the A2 with just four pieces, with a great A2/14/18/4!! Ivan & Ján also improve in the C1 category with an elegant C1/24/22/10/5!

03 July, 22:25

Cornel finds a B2/19/20/11!

02 July, 11:31

Which they improve, finding Cornel's C1/24/15/14/4!

01 July, 18:59

Ivan & Ján start the C1 category with a C1/23/15/14/4!

01 July, 11:29

Cornel improves two entries with a B2/18/21/11 and a B2/19/22/12, and also a new B1 record with a B1/20/23/14! Miodrag also finds a very elegant B2/17/20/9!

29 June, 08:54

Cornel finds a nice B2/17/18/10!

28 June, 01:00

Which he improves with a C1/23/16/14/4!

27 June, 08:59

Cornel finds a beautiful C1/23/15/14/4! Miodrag also finds an A2/22/22/7, that is similar to Cornel's, but not quite the same.

26 June, 20:55

Miodrag finds Cornel's A2/29/29/8, A2/33/34/9, A2/34/36/10 and A1/34/37/11!

25 June, 22:17

Ivan & Ján improve further with a B1/20/22/15!

24 June, 20:33

Miodrag finds a great idea giving two new records: a B2/14/17/6 and a B2/15/18/7!

23 June, 21:52

Ivan & Ján improve an entry with a very interesting B2/17/19/11!

22 June, 09:00

Cornel finds a B2/17/18/11!

21 June, 18:27

Arno retakes the lead with a B1/23/24/26!

21 June, 09:20

Cornel gets closer to the top with a B1/20/21/19!

20 June, 23:41

Today is B1 day... Miodrag takes the lead in that category with a magnificent B1/22/26/16!! Arno also improves significantly and gets very close with a B1/22/24/26! And finally Ralf also starts the category with a very original B1/19/22/13! One thing I can say is that, although all five B1 problems are quite close from a points point of view, they are - utterly - different matrices... not even a vague resemblance between any of them! It shows there are a lot of different and interesting possibilities yet to explore no doubt.

19 June, 21:58

Ivan & Ján start the B1 category with a brilliant and original B1/19/28/14! Cornel finds Arno's B1/16/18/9!

18 June, 13:47

Arno takes the lead also in category B1 with a very interesting B1/20/22/24! Cornel finds Arno's B2/16/17/8, and also a second B2/15/16/7!

14 June, 21:27

He also finds Arno's elegant A2/14/17/4!

13 June, 20:23

Cornel improves with a B1/19/21/15!

12 June, 16:07

... and now to the very top with an A1/35/38/26!!

12 June, 10:50

Arno's turn to get very close to the top in the A1 category, with an elegant A1/34/37/24!!

10 June, 19:47

Cornel gets even closer to the top with a B1/19/21/16!

10 June, 13:23

Cornel gets very close to the top, actually hard to get closer, with an elegant B1/18/23/17! Arno finds a magical C1/23/19/4, incredible... it seems a lot is possible with very few pieces in the C category, the sky is the limit (or not)!

08 June, 20:21

Cornel improves two entries with an A2/22/22/7 and an A2/29/29/8!

07 June, 17:38

Well Arno finds another surprising and most beautiful entry, an A2/21/22/5!! If we follow the current arithmetic progression, the next one could well be a 28 points with 6 pieces... :)

07 June, 07:28

Cornel finds a series of Arno's entries: a B2/12/13/4, B2/14/16/5 and a B1/15/17/7! Thus regaining a significant lead in the number of records category...

06 June, 20:41

Ralf finds an absolutely amazing A2/21/22/6!! Incredible idea...

06 June, 18:37

After further discussion, it seems the idea for C2 is somewhat confusing. Indeed one doesn't know anymore what "to make up" exactly of the second parameter's value. And one of the interesting and fun parts of those tournaments is the hunt for hints about what other discovered, thus it was changed to the sum of the number of moves by White and Black, and both are now given. In practice, given the enormous amount of possibilities, that it helps or actually hinders is another question...

Another important aspect that came up with (in practice) is again in category C, a composer found a problem in x Black moves, which has another solution in x Black moves, but with one more White move! Well, this need to be clearly defined if accepted or not, thus one must have a unique solution in x Black moves.

06 June, 18:36

Ralf finds Arno's subtle B2/12/13/4!

05 June, 13:03

Ivan & Ján improve greatly and take there turn as second place with an elegant A1/29/29/12!

04 June, 10:58

Arno moves to second place with a beautiful A1/27/30/15! Miodrag finds the elegant A2/7/17/3...

03 June, 20:57

Miodrag points out something important I have not thought of, and is a very good point. The unaccounted for moves by White should also be taken in account somewhere for category C! Thus for that category, what is now changed is that one needs to add the unaccounted moves by White to the total number of moves. For example if Black played 30 moves, and White's king played 20 moves, then the second parameter is the number of moves by Black, 30, plus 13 unaccounted for moves by White, thus 43 in total. The number of points is still calculated in the same way.

03 June, 20:49

Miodrag and Ralf find two most beautiful entries, a C1/28/26/5 and a A1/21/25/7 respectively!! It is quite clear there are many different promising ideas and paths to explore, in each of the categories...

02 June, 22:37

Cornel improves even more with a C1/21/20/5! Ralf also finds the B2/7/8/3...

02 June, 18:18

Arno finds the Miodrag and Cornel's puzzling C1/14/7/3!

02 June, 17:28

Cornel continues his impressive series with an excellent C1/21/15/4!!

02 June, 13:51

Which he improves even more with an elegant series: B2/12/13/4, B2/14/16/5, B2/15/17/7, B2/16/17/8 and a B2/16/18/9!

02 June, 11:40

Arno improves two entries in the B2 category with a B2/12/13/5 and a B2/14/16/6!

01 June, 22:06

Cornel also finds a beautiful C1/19/24/6! What can I say other than: "he is in the 'zone'" :)

01 June, 19:25

...and also starts category C with an amazing C1/20/24/8!! Very creative, showing the category's great potential...

01 June, 09:27

Cornel increases even more his lead with an A1/34/37/11!

31 May, 22:41

Cornel is unstoppable, and finds a series of unbelievable and beautiful entries: an A2/27/27/8, A2/33/34/9 and an A1/34/36/10!! Next stop: 40?! Ivan & Jan also start in the A1 category with a nice A1/20/20/11.

30 May, 09:22

Arno also starts the B1 category with a very nice B1/18/24/17! He also finds the same B2/7/8/3 as the others, and a different B2/9/13/4...

30 May, 00:47

And Cornel takes again first place in category A1 with an incredible A2/29/50/27!! Who will be the first to reach 30?! Wishing you good night and happy dreams, and see you tomorrow!

30 May, 00:03

First entry in the B1 category, at last!! :) And a magnificent one by Miodrag who finds a B1/19/21/12! Cornel also finds two great entries with an A2/21/22/7 and an A2/21/23/8!

29 May, 09:42

Good morning everyone! Cornel is also quite inspired, and finds Miodrag's C2/14/7/3! At least three puzzles now in the lower dimensions... A note for those who have WinChloë, something I tried yesterday and it is quite nice, one can use the "Redaction Mode", after having chosen the condition (Circé Inverse), stipulation and number of moves. Then one can play through a game as if it has the condition, thus quite convenient.

28 May, 20:58

Miodrag also improves an entry in the B2 category, with an elegant B2/14/16/7!

28 May, 13:46

Which Miodrag improves even more with a surprising C2/14/7/3!

27 May, 22:46

Cornel finds Miodrag's C2/10/7/3!

27 May, 21:10

Miodrag is in great form, and finds an absolutely amazing A1/27/27/10!!! Perfect construction. There is just a slight problem, it is not C+, impossible to test. Thus a new column has been added to show that. He also finds an elegant C2/10/7/3!

27 May, 19:13

Miodrag finds a great idea and improves an entry with a C2/19/16/4!! Arno also finds an original and elegant idea, and improves with an A2/14/17/4!

27 May, 09:21

Cornel finds a second C/16/12/4, completely different than Ivan & Jan's, and Ralf finds a B2/13/14/7 and a B2/14/15/8!

26 May, 23:08

Cornel improves with two nice problems in the B2 category: a B2/9/13/4 and a B2/10/16/5!

26 May, 22:42

Ivan & Ján start very strongly in the C2 category with an elegant C2/16/12/4!

26 May, 19:03

Cornel is quite inspired... he finds two amazing matrices: A2/14/14/4 (yes!) and a C2/15/14/4!! Both quite challenging... thus so far we have three perfect points scores entries(but not necessary moves of course)! The A2 with 5 pieces next on the list?! Ralf also improves an entry with a nice B2/12/13/6!

26 May, 07:37

Cornel finds a brilliant A2/16/17/5 and A2/17/18/6!! Great concept. It can already be said that the "new" idea works quite well, with some highly original matrices. There will most certainly be quite a few surprises still to come...

25 May, 22:03

Given the obvious difficulty to test problems with high points, C? matrices will be accepted during this tournament. There will be a period open after the tournament for finding eventual cooks. Hopefully there won't be any...

25 May, 21:53

Ralf finds an elegant: B2/10/11/6!

25 May, 09:14

Welcome to Juraj Lorïnc! He starts nicely finding the now classic A2/7/17/3! Cornel starts the new category with a cute C2/4/2/3, and a C2/8/6/4. Arno also finds a nice series with: A1/23/28/12, A2/23/27/11, A2/23/26/10 and an A2/22/25/9!

24 May, 23:17

New category! Thanks to Dan Meinking for the idea. Basically, it is the same as category A, except all Parry! Thus the five stipulations are mirrored to Parry stipulations, as given in the introduction page. An important difference is that white's moves are also taken in account, and 7 maximum points per piece. Should be very interesting too.

24 May, 23:05

Sorry for the delay...so, what have we... one incredible A1/25/47/18 from Cornel!! That is a very hard to C+ one. He has also found eventually better ones, but still need some testing! Ralf also enters the A1 category with a most beautiful A1/20/21/7, and finally Arno improves by a move more, and a piece less, with an A1/22/27/11! The number of records in the A2 and B2 tables were also increased to 12 instead of 10, as those additional two may prove very interesting (no more will be added).

24 May, 18:32

Unfortunately I do not have time now to update the site, but several great entries! I will return in about three hours and update it then.

24 May, 09:24

As a side note, similarly to Cornel's TT2, one can use two bishops of the same colour, since this would still be considered as not necessarily promoted pieces given the condition!

24 May, 09:17

And we have our first A1 entry! Arno finds a brilliant A1/22/26/12!! Quite complex and elegant... This matrix shows the great possibilities of the condition, and that one can expect quite a treat in the future.

24 May, 00:31

Going to sleep now, good night everybody!

24 May, 00:15

And Cornel wins the first fight for the five records! :) He finds a B2/13/16/10!

24 May, 00:08

Cornel also finds a new entry in category B2 with a B2/12/16/8!

23 May, 23:56

Miodrag finds another entry: a B2/11/12/7! Just one day after the start, and already quite a few interesting results...

23 May, 23:44

Cornel finds Miodrag's B2/7/8/3, and also a new B2/9/12/7, while Ivan & Jan improve an entry with a B2/9/10/4!

23 May, 23:11

Miodrag found two new entries: a B2/7/8/3 and a B2/8/9/4, and is very close to be the first to enter the record count table!

23 May, 22:43

Things start to heat up, Miodrag finds another elegant entry, an A2/14/20/5, while Ivan & Jan a quite subtle B2/8/9/4!

23 May, 22:13

Welcome to Miodrag Mladenovic, Ivan Skoba and Ján Golha! Miodrag starts with an elegant A2/13/16/4, while Ivan & Ján also found the A2/7/17/3!

23 May, 21:16

Cornel starts the B2 category with a B2/3/4!

23 May, 20:56

Welcome to Ralf Krätschmer! He starts strongly finding Arno's A2/7/17/3! And Cornel found it too! The first puzzle of the tournament.

23 May, 19:17

There were a few concerns raised about the "should not be the same with the Circe condition". It was removed. Thus all problems will be accepted, that meet the VerticalMirrorCirce condition, even those that may be converted by symmetry to a Circe one. Those should be relatively few, and only eventually in the low A2 / B2 categories. Two other important points: This condition is the only one that can be used, and also no fairy pieces allowed.

23 May, 19:14

Welcome to Arno Tüngler! He starts with a surprising A2/7/17/3!! One can notice the difference with the previous tournaments, where this would have swept all the other records above it. Cornel also improves with a very nice A2/13/16/4, and an A2/14/17/5!

23 May, 01:12

He also finds an A2/7/7/3!

23 May, 00:44

And we already have our first entry, welcome to Cornel Pacurar who starts with a very nice A2/11/11/4!

23 May, 00:00

GONG! Good luck to all!
