A few final words...
Well, the now classical final words :) You must be growing tired of those...
This has been a long journey, quite longer than usual.
To tell the truth I do not even remember when it started, wait, I'll check... ok beginning of November 2008, that makes it a 5 month tournament! Wow... and we all survived that, incredible :) It may be a little bit too long, I think 3 months should be a maximum, but in the beginning we did not really think about it as a "serious" tournament, it started out quite unofficially. But then as time went on, it was clear that it has grown to a full blown standard competition.
Although a little special as there was no official director. I think it is best to have one that said, to coordinate this.
Well, thank you to all the participants, it has been a very enjoyable tournament as always.
Special thanks to Cornel, for the entire idea, and starting it up.
Now for the tournament itself, well, looking now retrospectively at all the matrices, I realize that many many ideas passed over my head, and that it enables quite a lot of creativity! And there are most probably many more to be discovered.
I will not comment on them this time, if you would like to comment on any, especially your own, feel free to send it to me and I will add it to the specified matrix.
The ideas developed are really incredible/amazing, I will let you enjoy those in silence :)
As all the matrices are now given, do not hesitate to look for improvements in any of them and send them to me. As this tournament has clearly shown, 4 eyes see better than 2, so 2*x eyes with x>2 should see better than 4... :) The improvements will be shown on this page.
A special matrix in the low dimensions is the B2/5/27, quite incredible. It took me a long time to found that one... almost gave up hope. Well, the interesting thing is that all the competitors finally found it, very nice... Arno will send it for publication in the magazine Phenix. And thus it will not be shown here until publication, in order to qualify for being an Original.
And finally congratulation to all the participants, as all have found high marked and original matrices. And of course, to Arno, who is a super strong contender in those tournaments, finishing first in all of the categories, and to Ralf, for also finishing first with Arno in the B1 category!
Please note that there may - actually no - there are certainly errors in this page, please tell me if you spot any, and I will correct it as soon as possible.

Good luck for me that they didn’t! The problem would be correct if you replace the hamsters on f2 and g1 with dummies (unmovable pieces) and then you can even remove the hamster on b7 that only stands there to hinder additional solutions. So, it is not really a hamster-problem and it contradicts one postulate of Itamar who wrote that “the higher the records, somehow, the more subtle the matrices must be.” |

Interesting that again two composers with a similar attitude found each other, and when you look at the 8th place you can already imagine how Ivan loved to work with that great idea. In my opinion, the best in this category!" |
